The 31st World Hakka Conference is the first-ever Conference being hosted in Canada. The theme of the Conference reflects the multicultural and social inclusive character of the city .
All Hakkas in the world belong to one family. “If the family lives in harmony, all affairs will prosper” is a domestic discipline of Hakka people. Hakkas from around the world will gather in the city of Markham for a reunion to enhance fellowship, promote harmony, develop shared interests as well as carry forward the Hakka spirit of “endurance and diligence, daring to pioneer and keep forging ahead”. It is also to promote the excellence of Hakka culture which is about hard work and thrift, sincerity and solidarity, advocacy for culture, emphasis on education as well as filial piety. The euphony of “ka” (“family“ in Chinese) and the “Ca” from Canada, denotes that this Conference will jointly promote peaceful and friendly relations between China and Canada as well as peaceful coexistence of global citizens, in hopes of lasting peace in the world.
